Sir Elton John has praised his fans for their support through his recent illness.

As previously reported, the veteran musician was forced to cancel a number of summer shows following an appendix abscess diagnosis.

He is scheduled to return to touring later in the year and the talented pianist has now issued a statement on his website to thanks his fans for their support. John said:

"I would like to thank the literally thousands of people who have sent me get well cards and messages over the past two weeks. Your well wishes have touched me deeply and will play a big part in my recovery."

He continued: "I cannot wait to see you all and thank you in person when I resume my concert schedule later this year. In the meantime, please know that I consider myself a very blessed man to have such caring and considerate fans."

The 'Tiny Dancer' man meanwhile is due to unleash his latest studio album 'The Diving Board' in September.
