Sir Elton John concerned for Lady Gaga: 'I'd like to talk with her, but I just can't get through to her'

Musical legend Sir Elton John has expressed concern for Lady Gaga because her on-stage persona seems to be taking on too much of a dominant role.

During a new interview with The Australian, the 'Your Song' icon explained that when pop stars allow their alter-egos to overpower who they really are, they end up in dangerous territory and he's worried that she's heading down that road with the impending release of 'ARTPOP':

"With Gaga - who I love, she's the godmother to our children - I'd like to be able to talk to her right now, but I can't get through to her. And there are times when you have to listen. When your persona begins to take over your music and becomes more important, you enter a dangerous place."

"Once you have people around you who don't question you, you're in a dangerous place. When you get famous you get complacent. You stop listening to new things."

Sir Elton also admitted that he believes Gaga should be aiming for a more stripped-back sound now at this point in her career, adding:

"But my album's sound reflects the fact that all the things I love at the moment are stripped down. Lorde had a big US hit with a song called 'Royal'. It's just her voice and a drum machine, and it's beautiful in its simplicity. It's the kind of direction Gaga should be going in."
