Breakout UK band ABQ hit Liverpool, Newcastle, and The Great Escape in the run up to the release of their highly anticipated debut single ‘Takes So Long’.

‘Takes So Long’ is a song about being out of control, it is about letting go and starting again: it is about change. The track emanates energy and rebelliousness both lyrically and musically. Beginning with a simple guitar riff, it soon evolves into a track with an anthemic melody and a commanding and assertive drum beat.

This debut track manages to have a real vulnerability, a sentiment that is reaffirmed by some of the lyrics. ‘So this is where you go when you need to get away’ sings lead singer Paul Shevlin. It is a song about feeling overwhelmed and acknowledging that everyone needs to get away sometimes.

Hailing from the streets of Belfast, this four-piece indie pop band are not unaccustomed to recognition, having already been likened to bands such as Imagine Dragons, Snow Patrol, and Biffy Clyro. They have also had the opportunity to work with Mats Valentin (Carpark North), Ben Langmaid (La Roux), and Joe Cleere, the industry is really beginning to see how much ABQ really have to offer.

Albuquerque’s lead singer Paul Shevlin, previous winner for the BPI / BRIT Awards sponsored ‘Next Brit Thing’, provides an amazing front for this bold and impassioned band. His voice is incredibly powerful and yet there is an emotional quality to his vocals that means that the sentiment of this single being felt as much as it can be heard.

What is next for this dynamic four piece? Well with the upcoming release of ‘Takes So Long’ and a run of UK gigs scheduled for this spring, it doesn’t look as though things will be slowing down anytime soon. Catch them at The Great Escape at the end of May and prepare to be impressed by their expert musicianship and infectiously passionate performance style.
