“’Need You Now’ is set to become a real summer hit” – The Daily Express

‘President Street’ return with ‘Back Home’, a laid back track that shows a whole new side to this mysteriously alternative pop fusion collective

President Street, the Australian Pop Fusion Collective, return on the 5th of December with ‘Back Home’, a cool and relaxed take on the homecoming anthem. The song, with its enrobing vocal and pulsating percussion, is the perfect song to lead us into Autumn.

The track, with its message of homecoming, is in response to the refugee crisis currently active in Europe. Pete, President Street’s main man, wanted to depoliticise the crisis and bring humanity into the conversation. He wanted to remind everyone that these vulnerable people are trying to rediscover where exactly their home is.

“The song was quite challenging”, Pete explains, “the subject matter is pretty heavy but at the same time I wanted to make the chorus feel ‘upbeat’ and optimistic as I wanted the song to be about people getting the chance to find their new home. I wanted to show some happiness in the depths of tragedy. The world is so politically divided and I’m just trying to paint a more human picture”.

The track starts as it means to go on with rolling synths and dulcet tones. The song quickly gains momentum as it builds towards its percussion heavy chorus and infectiously catchy vocal hook. The track, with its laid back vibes, is chilled, and soulful, and truly beautiful.

Riding high on the success of their recently released hit single ‘Need You Now’ (which featured star of Prison Drama ‘Wentworth’ Kate Jenkinson’), President Street are ready to impress once more with their artistic production style and meaningful lyrics and sentiments.

Pete’s journey to music was not a smooth one. Following the untimely death of his mother, father, brother and 2 sisters as a child, Pete eventually found himself becoming increasingly dissatisfied dealing with the monotony of everyday life working as a first year lawyer.

So on a whim he decided to move to Hong Kong and it was here that he randomly jumped on stage and started playing the congas with a Latin band that were playing, despite his lack of any prior musical education or practise. This decision then irretrievably changed his life.

‘My mother’s family were very musical’ remarks Pete, ‘and had she survived I probably would’ve had the ‘typical’ musical upbringing with music lessons, etc’. There is no doubt that the tragedy that Pete faced in his early years shaped him as a musician, he didn’t get the opportunity to have piano lessons and music tuition in a typical way, and yet the remarkable thing is that Pete found his way to music anyway.

Music for Pete became a form of therapy, a lifeline, a purpose, a way to connect with his past – an impressive outcome of a spontaneous trip.

So what can we expect next from this collective? Well, with Back Home being released on the 5th of December, and the suggestion of new music already in the pipeline, it doesn’t look like things are going to slow down for Pete Moses and his crew anytime soon…
