With its dynamic piano led accompaniment and mesmerising vocals, ‘Head on the Tracks’ welcomes in a whole new era for this young singer songwriter. Starting simply with a solo piano introduction, the track quickly intensifies with the inclusion of Drury’s commanding vocals and a driving percussion part.
The track continues to build until we reach the climax, a powerful and formidable chorus that gives Drury the opportunity to truly showcase his vocal power and control. The artful lyrics conjure up images of agitation and uncertainty, which is perhaps not surprising given the tracks title. “Trains on its way // play the game you payed to play” sings Drury in his characteristically sultry tone, and in a moment sums up the restless sentiments of the single.
Drury began to play the piano at the age of eight with a level of alacrity unusual for someone so young. Those around him soon realised how serious he was about music, and so his talent was nurtured and cultivated. He spent his teen years honing and perfecting his Songwriting talents, and is now a student at the prestigious London based music institution BIMM.
‘Head on the Tracks’ makes it clear that Drury is, at his core, a storyteller interested in the human condition. He narrates and depicts those coming of age experiences, that are relatable to so many of us, in a paired back and beautifully honest way. The track was brought to life with the help of two-time Grammy award winning producer Marc Swersky and mixed by legendary mixer Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac, Imagine Dragons)
However, Drury is certainly no one trick pony. Raised in San Diego, Drury moved to New York City after being signed to the prestigious New York Models, a relationship that led to work with, to name but a few, Hermes, Robert Geller, and Tom Ford.
An Alt-Pop track peppered with Indie, Rock, and Jazz elements, ‘Head on the Tracks’ is a real triumph. It’s gutsy musicality and artful lyricism show the talents of this young model come singer songwriter, and the instrumentation highlights his propensity for beautifully robust piano riffs.
So what’s next for Trevor Drury? Coming off a string of shows with Ramin Karimloo, Drury’s ‘Head on the Tracks’ was released on March 22, with the accompanying music video and remainder of his EP dropping throughout the year, so stay tuned to see what this artful musician gets up to next.
