Exclusive Interview with Jerad Finck

Spokane based singer-songwriter Jerad Finck returns with the sonically expansive 'Home'. Co-written with Steven Solomon (who helped pen James Arthur's 'Say You Won't Let Go'), the track sends a message of redemption as Finck makes it clear that it's never too late to make your way back home.

We caught up with Jerad to talk about his recent signing to OneRPM and his songwriting process.

Hi Jerad! Can you quickly introduce yourself!

Hello! My name is Jerad Finck. I’ve been playing music my whole life. I grew up on my family farm, I love video games and am an uber nerd, I’m addicted to food in general, and I just had my first child, Harper Rose. She’s a year and a half now. It’s been a crazy year, and I have so much music to put out, I really can’t wait.

So you have just released ‘Home’, can you tell us a little bit about this new single?

This song was a co-write with my buddy Steven Solomon (he co-wrote James Arthur’s hit “Say You Won’t Let Go”) and James Newton of the band Sleeping Wolf. This song was a major transition point for me in a direction I’ve been heading for awhile now. I’m really into this ElectroSynth thing that has been going on, and tying that into more analog sounds and real instruments has been a rabbit hole I have dove deep into. For me it’s exciting because I think I’m really making the music I want to be making right now, it’s very natural and more of an extension of myself.

What inspired you to write the song?

This song was a simple message. No matter how bad it gets, no matter how far you stray, there is always a way back home, or where you started, or why you began in the first place. I think it’s something we all need to remember or hear once or twice in our lives. I know I did.

How would you describe your music in 3 words?

Neon Melancholy & Sugar.

Are we going to be able to see you live anytime soon….?

Yes, tour plans should be up very soon, and I plan on going everywhere I can.

You have just signed to OneRPM, how does this feel?

It Feels great, I feel like I really have a team that is invested in my and some serious champions who believe in what I’m doing. It’s an amazing feeling.

Do you find it easier to write the lyrics or the melodies first?

Always Melodies, I’ll usually have an entire song done, production almost finished before I begin on lyrics. I’ll have a theme, but the exact words are always last. Unless I’m co-writing, than it’s just however the group vibe is going.

And finally… who would be your dream duet partner?

Paul McCartney
