‘Abyss’ is a heartfelt exploration of toxic masculinity in the context of platonic love from this songstress who is fast making a name for herself as a serious lyricist to watch. Mythological metaphor and poetic parallels fill this pop song with the depth Castro’s songwriting has always been known for, but also sees her pair this insight with light-hearted and breezy instrumentation, ensuring this chorus is not one you’ll be able to get out of your head any time soon.
