George Michael tops UK albums chart with 'Symphonica'

George Michael’s latest album ‘Symphonica’ has debuted at No. 1 in the UK chart.

‘Symphonica’ is George Michael’s first new album in almost ten years and gives him his seventh chart-topping album.

The ‘Careless Whisper’ singer fought off tough competition from Kylie Minogue with her latest LP ‘Kiss Me Once’. George managed to outsell Kylie by more than 20,000 copies, which leaves the Aussie pop star at No. 2.

The rest of this week’s top five is made up by Pharrell Williams with ‘G I R L’, a non-mover, at No. 3, Paloma Faith is down two to No. 4 with ‘A Perfect Contradiction’ and last week’s No. 1 album from Elbow, ‘The Take Off And Landing Of Everything’, has fallen four places to No. 5.

Besides George Michael and Kylie Minogue, other new entries to this week’s top ten come from X Factor runner-up Nicholas McDonald with ‘In The Arms Of An Angel’ at No. 6, Taylor Momsen’s rock band The Pretty Reckless are at No. 8 with ‘Going To Hell’, and Westlife’s Kian Egan has debuted at No. 9 with his premiere solo album ‘Home’.

Other new entries to this week’s chart include Enrique Iglesias at No. 11 with ‘Sex And Love’, Skrillex at No. 13 with ‘Recess’, Glee’s Lea Michele at No. 16 with ‘Louder’, The War On Drugs’ ‘Lost In The Dream’ at No. 18, ‘The Collection’ best of from Belinda Carlisle at No. 24, American Authors’ ‘Oh What A Life’ at No. 26, Rend Collective’s ‘The Art Of Celebration’ at No. 28, and Engelbert Humperdinck at No. 31 with ‘Engelbert Calling’.
