Stars react to death of Glee's Cory Monteith

Following news of the sudden death of Glee actor Cory Monteith, a number of high profile names have spoken out to remember the 31-year-old star.

Cory Monteith’s publicity team have said: “We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss.”

Tributes have been rife amongst a number of music artists.

Taylor Swift, who had a relationship with Monteith in 2010, tweeted: “Speechless. And for the worst reason.”

Rihanna wished the actor’s family well by saying: “Cory Monteith, may your spirit be at peace, and may you fly with the angels… Heartbreaking, my prayers are with all of his loved ones!”

One Direction’s Niall Horan stated: “RIP Cory! Didn’t know him personally! Met him on a couple of occasions! Super nice guy! Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends! X”

Demi Levato also took to Twitter to express sympathy for Monteith’s Glee co-star and girlfriend Lea Michele as she wrote: “#RIPCoryMonteith… So unbelievably tragic. Please #prayforLea.”

Producers of Glee described Monteith as an exceptional performer "and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously."

Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson in the award-winning Fox television series Glee, was found dead at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver, Canada, yesterday. 

The cause of his death is currently unknown. A postmortem is due to be performed on Monday.
