The Broadway musical ‘American Idiot,’ based on the 2004 Green Day album of the same name, is being turned into a movie.

The show centres around three characters, Johnny, Will and Tunny, who decide they have enough of suburbia and each go their separate ways in life.

Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, who helmed the movie adaptation of ‘Mamma Mia!’ are on board as producers, as is Green Day. Michael Mayer will direct. No word yet as to when casting or filming will commence.
