Television hit Big Little Lies set to return to HBO

The stars of one of the year’s biggest breakout hits have announced that Big Little Lies will be back for a second, seven-episode installment.

Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will again star and executive produce the limited series, which will continue to explore the lives of the Monterey, Ca., families that so intrigued fans last spring. Veteran David E. Kelley will once again write all of the episodes and executive produce.

The team also announced that Andrea Arnold (Wuthering Heights, American Honey) will direct and executive produce all seven episodes.

“I’m thrilled to be bringing back this talented team of artists,” Witherspoon said. “It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them.”

Based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel, Big Little Lies became one of the most talked about shows on television at its debut; it was named to a slew of top-10 lists and won eight primetime Emmy awards.

“This is inspired by the overwhelming response by audiences around the world, conceived once again by Liane Moriarty, realized by David Kelley and now in the hands of visionary filmmaker Andrea Arnold,” said Kidman. “What a journey this has been. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to keep exploring these female characters and make this series with my friends.”
