Janelle Monáe heaps praise on Prince and Sean 'Diddy' Combs

Janelle Monáe has revealed that she is "the whole package" and wants to be involved in as many creative projects as possible.

During a new interview with Britain's The Guardian newspaper, the star explained that she doesn't want to be pigeonholed as just as music artist because she has so much more to give: “I’ve never viewed myself as ‘just’ a musician or singer. I’m a storyteller who wants to tell untold, meaningful, universal stories in unforgettable ways. I want to do it all, study it all and find my place in it.”

She went onto explain that she was introduced to Sean 'Diddy' Combs back in 2006 and took a chance when he offered her a recording contract: "Diddy was hands off and wanted me to do my thing. That’s why he’d offered to sign me in the first place, because I was different and I was the whole package."

Monáe also spoke in praise of the late music icon Prince, adding that he was something of a mentor to her: "He was actually helping me with my new music during the time before he transitioned. I was lucky enough to see his last show and tell him how much I loved him. He was a giver – people don’t know that. He gave so much: advice, very quiet donations to charities. He was a truly incredible soul.”
