Janelle Monáe cast in Forrest Gump and Cast Away director's new movie

Janelle Monáe will star in a new movie directed by Robert Zemecki, the director of 'Forrest Gump' and 'Cast Away'.

This is not Monáe's first feature film, she has recently appeared in Oscar-nominated 'Hidden Figures' and Oscar-winning 'Moonlight'. 'Hidden Figures' tells the true story  of three brilliant African-American women at NASA. 'Moonlight' won the Best Picture Award, Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay awards at this year's Oscars.

Also starring Steve Carrell, the film is based on the true story of Mark Hogencamp who created a minature toy town in his garden to help him recuperate from a coma after being violently attacked.

The new film is originally titled 'Marwencol' and is executively produced by Jeff Malmberg, who directed the 2010 documentary which inspired this film.

Monáe is represented by Wondaland Management and WME.
