Jason Derulo: 'I made my new album for selfish reasons'

'Talk Dirty' hitmaker Jason Derulo has revealed that his latest album was a selfish endeavour because it represents who he is as a person.

Speaking to the US edition of OK! Magazine, the star explained that he wasn't doing it for other people and instead just wrote the kind of record he would want to listen to:

"I think it's [the album] more of a representation of who I am as a person. I love to have a good time. I made this album for selfish reasons. I was trying to get myself out of a rut so I wasn't doing it for anyone else, it was me just trying to get myself out of a dark place because of the injury I had."

He went on to add that writing an album full of songs that embody his personality was more important than writing a string of chart-toppers:

"It wasn't about writing a hit album, it wasn't about writing a hit song, but it was about making myself feel good and in the end I got an album that you can get to know me better on. That's what I'm excited about. A lot of people have heard the hit songs but who is Jason Derulo?"
