Jason Derulo understands Robin Thicke's 'desperation'

'Trumpets' singer Jason Derulo has defended Robin Thicke's decision to try and win back his wife, Paula Patton, by naming his new album after her.

During a new interview with Digital Spy, Derulo explained that love makes you do crazy things and he completely understands the grand gesture Thicke has made by calling his new record 'Paula': "I think when somebody's desperate, they're desperate. I can't knock him for trying. He's trying everything to get his girl back, so I can't knock him for that..."

"I talked to him personally, and we're not necessarily like the best of friends or anything, but you know, he mentioned something about that. So you can tell when somebody is in dire need of having that special person back. And I think that's all it is."

Derulo went onto add that as a musician, you write about personal things and he doesn't think it's inappropriate: "As a musician, as a songwriter, that's what we do. We put our hearts on our sleeves and what's ever on our mind we just go to our safe zone, which is writing songs."
