Jessie J likens illegal downloading to not paying for a haircut

Jessie J has offered her thoughts on illegal downloading.

Legal digital music services like iTunes reared their heads around ten years ago and the area is as strong as ever today.

Nearly three and a half million songs were bought each week online in 2013, with the one billionth track recently sold.

Speaking to the BBC about illegal downloading, however, Jessie J commented: "It's like going to the hairdressers, having your hair cut and running out."

"You can't make music for free, you can't live for free. Your record label have to make back a certain amount of money when they are spending money on you, to give you the opportunity to make another album."

Referring to the launch of Apple's flagship downloading platform iTunes, will.i.am meanwhile commented:

"I remember we got called to do the first iTunes, iPod commercial. They were like 'We want to use 'Hey Mama' to launch this thing called iTunes'...I'm like 'What's iTunes?'."
