Jessie J explains decision to join The Voice

Jessie J has revealed why she decided to sign up as a coach on The Voice, claiming the BBC talent show represented her as a person.

The 23-year-old, who alongside Will.i.am, The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue and Tom Jones, helped to pull in nearly 10 million viewers for Saturday night's opening episode, told The Sun that many of her friends expected her to join The X-Factor or Britain’s Got Talent instead.

But the Price Tag star admitted she chose The Voice as it allows her to showcase her true personality: "It's very scary but very exciting. But you know what? I'm just excited because I get to see a different side of things and people get to see me in a completely different scenario.

"I'm not singing and it's not me doing a three-minute TV performance, so people get to see my personality and really see that I have a passion for what I do. That's what I'm most excited about, people getting to see that I am a bit silly, make jokes and get told off. But I'm also a hard worker and care about technique and the artist, and I get very emotional."

The BRIT School graduate also confessed that she can still relate to the hopes and fears of the contestants: "It's a very interesting vibe and I just found myself forgetting I was on TV. But I could understand what the contestants were going through, stepping on stage and wanting to get people's attention. It broke my heart.

"It's a weird situation because I'm still in that situation as a recording artist right now. I could put out my second album and no one could buy it. I desperately want people to buy it so know how that feels."
