Justin Bieber DUI trial date delayed

The date of Justin Bieber's upcoming DUI trial has been put back.

The singer was arrested earlier this year by police near Miami beach and subsequently charged with DUI, driving without a valid licence and resisting arrest.

A trial date of May 5 had been set, but lawyers for the 20-year-old singer successfully got the date shifted to July 7.

This is so that they can examine evidence and decide whether to accept a potential plea deal.

Miami-Dade County Judge William Altfield said at a hearing on Wednesday (April 23):

"I want to give everyone plenty of time."

Prosecutors Daniel Diaz-Balart and Juan Perez did not object to the delay request.
