Justin Bieber on fame: 'I didn't know how to handle it'

Canadian singer Justin Bieber has opened up about getting sucked into the celebrity lifestyle in a new interview on 'The Ellen Show' and confessed that fame is an incredibly hard thing to deal with.

Now that the 'As Long As You Love Me' sensation is 21, Ellen DeGeneres asked him what he had for his first legal alcoholic drink and Bieber joked that he had one beer and was toasted: "I kept it simple, I think I had a Heineken or Corona or something... one beer, got me!"

He was then asked about the speech he gave at the end of his Comedy Central Roast, which was more of an apology for his recent behaviour, and confessed that he really succumbed to the pressures of fame and didn't know how to pull himself out of it:

"I was just talking abut it being a new chapter for me and saying sorry for the things I've done. I wasn't searching for people's approval, but I wanted to say to them that it wasn't me [...] I didn't know how to handle it and it went to my head. People had to pull me down for me to see what a jerk I was being [...] I just, I wasn't trying to be a jerk. There was no way of preparing me for it."
