Justin Bieber is not familiar with fellow Canadian singer Shawn Mendes

'What Do You Mean' heartthrob Justin Bieber has revealed that he doesn't know who fellow Canadian singer Shawn Mendes is.

During a new interview with New York's 95.5 PLJ this week (September 15), DJ Ralphie Aversa asked Bieber: "Do you look at a kid now like Shawn Mendes and think, like, 'I wish... I was going through what he's going through now with what I know now?'"

The Canadian heartthrob then looked a little confused and asked who Mendes is, but once he was told about the young star's accomplishments he had nothing but good things to say: "Who's Shawn Mendes? Nice, nice. Good for him. I don't know him, but I will check him out for sure."

Earlier this summer, Mendes told his Twitter followers that he really looks up to Bieber and considers him to be a huge inspiration: "I remember watching him on YouTube and thinking how amazing it would be to do what he does. And now I'm doing it. I can't thank you guys enough for what you've done for me. Win or lose guys its all fun. I'm blown away with what you guys have done already!"
