Justin Bieber sets a brand new Official Singles Chart record

With just one week to go until this year’s Christmas Number 1 is announced, Justin Bieber continues to lead the way on the Official Singles Chart with 'Love Yourself'.

The track - co-written by Ed Sheeran - logs a third week at the summit with 102,000 combined sales, while his previous single 'Sorry' holds at No.2.

The feat means Bieber sets a new Official Chart record today as the first artist ever to log four weeks at Numbers 1 and 2 consecutively. The previous record holder was The Beatles, who logged three consecutive weeks at Numbers 1 and 2 in 1967/68 with 'Hello Goodbye' and 'Magical Mystery Tour' (EP). This seemingly unstoppable run of form now puts Bieber as a firm contender in the biggest chart battle of the year – the Official Christmas Number 1 race 2015.

The race kicks off today and runs through to midnight on Thursday, the winner is announced on Christmas Day by BBC Radio 1 just before 1pm, with the full Official Christmas Singles Chart Top 100 published on OfficialCharts.com from 5.45pm.

The remainder of this week’s Top 5 is made up of Adele’s 'Hello' (3), Grace ft G-Eazy’s 'You Don’t Own Me' (4), and Bieber’s 'What Do You Mean' (5).

Stormzy vaults from 91 to Number 8 with 'Shut Up'. The British MC has launched a campaign to get the track, which was unveiled back in May this year, to Number 1 this Christmas. Will he continue to climb next week? Check out the full list of Christmas Number 1 contenders here.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, X Factor winner Louisa Johnson enters at Number 9 after just four days’ sales with her winner’s single 'Forever Young'. The track, a cover of Bob Dylan’s 'Forever Young', marks the first Dylan song to hit the Top 10 since Adele’s 'Make You Feel My Love' reached Number 7 in January 2011.

Following their emotional performance on last week’s X Factor final, One Direction’s History reaches a fresh peak at Number 11 today, marking their 15th Top 20 single. 99 Souls leap five places to claim a new high at Number 18 with Girl Is Mine, and US singer Shawn Mendes lands his first UK Top 40 single with 'Stitches', which jumps from 41 to Number 29.

Finally, five Christmas classics appear in this week’s Top 40: Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You (12), The Pogues’ and Kirsty MacColl’s Fairytale Of New York (15), Wham’s Last Christmas (24), Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday (34) and Shakin’ Stevens’ Merry Christmas Everyone (35).
