Justin Bieber has deleted his Instagram account after receiving abusive comments.

The singer threatened to make his page private recently after fans posted hate messages on photos of the Canadian and model Sofia Richie.

His ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez then got in on the action by commenting that Bieber should keep his private life out of the spotlight.

However, on Tuesday (August 16) Bieber's account has seemingly been deleted, or disabled.

Fans have reacted in horror, with one Twitter user writing:

"justin bieber deactivated his instagram i am DECEASED."

Another said: "EMERGENCY ALERT EVERYONE WAKE UP JUSTIN BIEBER DELETED HIS INSTAGRAM OMG OMG OMG IM SHOOK."
