Justin Timberlake on going solo: 'It was one of the best and worst things I've ever done'

Singer and actor Justin Timberlake has opened up about walking away from his career as part of *NSYNC and admitted that it was a really difficult thing to do.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey about making the tough decision to go solo, the 'Suit & Tie' hitmaker confessed that it was a bittersweet thing to experience and something that played on his mind for a while before drawing a line under being a boyband member:

"I would wake up every morning feeling this more and more of an urge to step out on my own and try my own hand as a musician just by myself."

Timberlake added that everyone around him warned him that leaving the group was a bad idea: "It was happening all around me: 'Why wouldn't you ride this out? You're the biggest group in the world. Why would you walk away from this?'"

"It's one of the best/worst things that I have ever done. It was bittersweet. It was hard to say goodbye to that era, but I felt it changing. I felt music changing. And I felt myself changing."

Timberlake thanked Oprah for the very personal interview in a Twitter post shared from his official account and wrote: "@Oprah: Thank you for including me in such esteemed company and allowing me to share my story. It is truly my honor! #MasterClass."
