Justin Timberlake's Super Bowl Halftime Show announcement met with mixed reactions

Justin Timberlake has announced that he is set to headline next year's Super Bowl Halftime Show.

This year's event in Houston, Texas, reached more than 150 million people worldwide, including more than 80 million views.

The superstar's appearance will be his first in fourteen years since his infamous performance alongside Janet Jackson when he accidentally ripped her top, exposing her nipple.

Timberlake announced the news last night (October 22) on Twitter during a clip of himself with the US talk show host, Jimmy Fallon

However, his announcement was met with mixed reactions, due to many fans of Jackson complaining that the incident had not been given sufficient recognition.

Journalist Ernest Owens wrote: “Still ensuring white privilege remains in style in 2017. Meanwhile, Janet Jackson is still left in the cold. My only request is that you don’t perform any of the music inspired by her brother or any Black artist. You love our culture, but disrespect our people”.
