Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson: 'I'm the first alternative musician to judge on a reality show'

Musician Ricky Wilson, of Kaiser Chiefs fame, has revealed that as the 'first alternative' judge on a reality vocal talent show he feels as though he has opened up the door for rock music to play a more prominent role in mainstream entertainment.

Speaking to London's Metro newspaper, the 'I Predict A Riot' star explained that he is paving the way for other musicians to take up similar job offers to his current role as a coach on 'The Voice' in the UK:

"This is me being a big head here, so I need to be careful - but when it was announced that Chris Martin was doing the American one...I'd like to think that it came into his head when he was offered it that it was maybe something that we're allowed to do."

"I was probably the first alternative musician to judge on a reality show and I think it was a brave step to do that, but I see it as a step in the door."

Earlier this month, Wilson spoke out about previous winners of 'The Voice' and confessed that he feels they didn't work hard enough to continue on to enjoying success in the music world: "They didn't see it through. That sounds harsh, but it's not like you go straight to number one when you get a record deal. That's where the hard work starts."
