Katy Perry to avoid Super Bowl controversy: 'I want everyone to talk about the music'

Katy Perry says she isn't looking to stir up controversy at this year's Super Bowl.

The US star has landed the coveted half-time slot at the February 1 American football event, which is taking place in Arizona.

MIA turned heads at the 2012 Super Bowl by giving the middle finger to the camera, which ultimately landed her with legal action.

However, Perry told the Associated Press that she has no plans to use the massive platform to stir things up or go raunchy.

She said: "Everything I've done in my career hasn't been blatant this or that. It's always with a wink. It's a soft-serve sexiness.

"My intention is that everyone talks about the music and nothing else... Sometimes you can't control other people. But I will control myself."
