Katy Perry and Pharrell to co-chair 2017 Met GalaPop sensation Katy Perry and hitmaker Pharrell Williams have both been appointed celebrity co-chairs of the 2017 Met Gala. The event, which takes place annually as a fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City, always has a theme and the next one will celebrate designer Rei Kawakubo and the "Art of the In-Between". In May this year, the 'Teenage Dream' beauty told People Style that she loves the freedom that comes with creating an outfit for the Met Gala: "For me, Met Gala, it’s great, it’s so much fun, it’s the best party, but you’re a little bit beholden to designers you know. When I create my own costumes for tour, it’s like whatever the f**k I want to do. It’s just like larger than life. It’s like: Can it move, can it smell, can it — blah, blah, blah, blah?”
