Katy Perry's 'Roar' breaks iTunes sales record

Katy Perry's new single has broken her own sales record on iTunes.

The pop songstress released the comeback track last week (August 12) and it has sold exceptionally well, despite going head-to-head with Lady Gaga's 'Applause'.

It is on course to top the US charts, ending Robin Thicke's reign at the summit of the list with his hit 'Blurred Lines'.

Apple have now confirmed that 'Roar' has shifted over 544,000 units so far on iTunes in the US alone, meaning that it is her best performing song on the platform.

Perry meanwhile has been confirmed to close this year's iTunes Festival in London on September 30.
