Katy Perry: 'It's easy to be your own biggest bully'

'Teenage Dream' beauty Katy Perry has confessed that her new single is about standing up for yourself because it's so easy to 'be your own bully' and to whittle away at your self-confidence.

Speaking to MTV News about her new offering, 'Roar', the superstar explained that it's essentially an anthem of independence and self-love:

"I started the record in November, but things were really flowing by the spring and it's a song about standing up for yourself. Who can be the biggest bully in the equation is yourself and can get in your way and it's a song about speaking up for yourself and having the strength."

She was also asked if she thought 'Roar' would be as successful as her previous releases and admitted that it gave her the chills, which was a great indication: "You can never be too sure because it doesn't always work out like that."

"But for me I've always kind of gone with my intuitive feeling — if something really moves me, if I get those goosebumps or chicken pox, if I get those then I know it struck a chord in me."
