Katy Perry admits to having suicidal thoughts following divorce from Russell Brand

Katy Perry has revealed that she had suicidal thoughts after her divorce from Russell Brand.

Perry and Brand were wed in October 2010 but 14 months later the British comedian filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The pair’s divorce became effective as of July 2012.

Speaking about her divorce, Katy Perry told Billboard: “I asked myself, 'Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?'”

However, she used the turmoil of her marriage as inspiration for a new song titled ‘By The Grace Of God’, of which Perry explained: “That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point.”

Discussing her personal approach to songwriting the ‘Roar’ singer stated: “All the songs are real-life moments. I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music. I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs.”

Despite the havoc of her relationships in the past, Katy Perry showed that she has now happily moved on with her current boyfriend John Mayer.

Of her musician beau the American pop star gushed: “He literally is a genius, as is evident from his song writing. I always tell him, 'Darling, you know I'm going to have to give your mind to science after you've passed, because we're going to have to understand how all these sparks work.'”

During the course of her interview with Billboard Katy Perry also confirmed that the follow-up to her single ‘Roar’ will be a power ballad called ‘Unconditionally’.
