Katy Perry scores biggest album sales week for female in 2013

Pop beauty Katy Perry's new album 'Prism' debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart this week, but it has also broken an impressive record.

For the week ending October 27, the full-length offering shifted an impressive 286,000 copies giving it the biggest sales week for an album by a female artist in 2013 so far.

Miley Cyrus previously held the title with her new cut, 'Bangerz', which debuted at the top spot with 270,000 units sold three weeks ago. 'Prism' is also the second biggest pop album release of the year, after Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories', which sold 339,000 copies in its first week.

Upon hearing the exciting news, Perry took to her official Twitter page and thanked fans for making the release such a success in her native USA: "GOOD morning! (from TOKYO) I woke up to the news that we are #1 with the #PRISM debut & become the biggest record by a pop female this year!"

"For that I say THANK YOU. I hope you are enjoying all the colors #PRISM has to offer. I promise to continue to give back... Tour next year... And so many opportunities to be a light very soon. Your love & support for the music means the world to me. X"

'Prism', meanwhile, dipped one spot to No.2 during yesterday's midweek albums chart update in the UK although the final position will be confirmed this coming Sunday, November 3.
