Kelly Clarkson on time after American Idol: "I hated my life"

Hitmaker Kelly Clarkson has revealed that she didn't expect taking part in American Idol to impact her life so negatively and really "hated" the period of time that followed her stint on the show.

In a new interview with Redbook magazine, the 'Mr. Know It All' sensation explained that she felt as though no one cared about her as a person and artist, and all the attention was focused on the programme itself:

"I'm going to be completely honest - I had no one looking out for me. They were looking out for the show, and it was horrible."

She also admitted that while she wasn't naive going into the whole experience, she didn't anticipate being treated the way she was and is now "all cried out" about her involvement with American Idol:

"I was 19 years old. I was smart enough to know that it wasn't about me, but that didn't make it any easier. I'm all cried out about it, but my first four years, I hated my life; I almost quit a dozen times."

Fellow American Idol alum Adam Lambert also recently spoke about the reality of being a contestant on the popular show and described his experience as one of control:

"There was a lot of help involved, and there were a lot of songwriters involved, but I was making decisions: I like that song or I don't like that song. I wasn't being told what to do every step. I wasn't being controlled in that manner on the show, either."
