Kelly Clarkson banned from taking Jane Austen ring out of Britain

Kelly Clarkson has been told that she can't take a ring once owned by Jane Austen back home to the US.

The singer is said to have splashed out £152,000 on the ring at an auction in the UK in July but it has been deemed a British "national treasure".

The piece of jewellery was once owned by author Jane Austen and Clarkson told the Daily Star that she has had a request to take it back to the US turned down. She said:

"I got up at 4am to start bidding on the auction. We put in an export request but I can't take it out of the UK as they've named it a national treasure."

The American Idol star meanwhile said that she is a fan of Austen and British history, adding:

"I had my sister with me and we went to Derbyshire to see where the version of Pride And Prejudice featuring Keira Knightley was filmed. Y'all live in such a beautiful place. When I'm here [in Britain] there's so much to see as I'm a really big history nerd. All I've done for the past decade is see the tour bus so we thought we'd do something different."
