Kesha on fitting in: 'I played confident but still felt like an outcast'

'Blow' hitmaker Kesha has revealed that she may be done with her stay in a rehabilitation centre, but she will always be a 'work in progress' and will keep focusing on herself from now on.

During a new interview with Elle, the songstress admitted that while she has always been confident it didn't stop her from feeling like she was on the outside:

“If someone called me pretty, I’d sneer and smear more glitter on my face. I didn’t want to be just pretty — I was wild, crazy and free. I talked about sex, about drinking. I played confident but still felt like an outcast. The music industry has set unrealistic expectations for what a body is supposed to look like, and I started becoming overly critical of my own body because of that.”

She also confessed that despite completing a treatment program, she still isn't 'fixed' and needs to always be mindful of her situation and the world around her in order to keep her head in a good place:

“I’m not fully fixed – I am a person in progress, but I want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Even I need to be reminded that we are who we are. And when I say that, I f–king mean it, now more than ever.”
