Ke$ha clarifies 'Die Young' lyrics following school shooting

Ke$ha has issued an official statement regarding her song 'Die Young' in the aftermath of the tragic US school shooting.

As previously reported, her single was taken off the air by some US radio stations following the recent murder of 27 people - including 20 school children - at the hands of a gunman in Connecticut.

The singer later tweeted that she was "forced" into singing the lyrics but soon deleted the message from her page.

Ke$ha has now released a full statement on her website clarifying her lyrics, admitting she did have "concerns" about using the words. The 'Tik Tok' star said:

"After such a tragic event I was feeling a lot of emotion and sadness when I said I was forced to sing some of the lyrics to 'Die Young'. Forced is not the right word. I did have some concerns about the phrase 'die young' in the chorus when we were writing the lyrics especially because so many of my fans are young and that's one reason why I wrote so many versions of this song."

Ke$ha continued: "But the point of the song is the importance of living every day to the fullest and staying young at heart, and these are things I truly believe."
