Ke$ha: 'Helping animals has always been my goal'

'Die Young' songstress Ke$ha has opened up about her passion to help animals and revealed that she once contracted scabies from trying to separate two stray dogs that had been glued together.

She told Billboard that she tried to rescue the abused street dogs in the middle of the night with the help of The Humane Society: "I was calling the Humane Society in the middle of the night and nobody was answering. I bitched about it to enough people that they ended up sending a whole help team of volunteers."

The hitmaker has since been named The Humane Society's ambassador and she explained that she takes her duties very seriously: "If you follow my music, you know I'm a bit of a jackass. But this is one part of my life I take really seriously. Helping animals has always been my goal."

Ke$ha will be given the Wyler Award at the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) Genesis Awards benefit on March 23 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, and Beverly Kaskey (senior director of the HSUS' Hollywood outreach program) added:

"She's always willing to speak out and lend her name and voice for issues we're addressing at the time. She has such a wide international reach."
