Kimberley Walsh on charity mountain climb meltdown: 'I totally lost it'

Girls Aloud beauty Kimberley Walsh has revealed that when she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2008 for Comic Relief she had a breakdown because it was emotionally and physically challenging.

The songstress made the Tanzanian trek a few years back for charity, along with other stars such as Fearne Cotton and band mate Cheryl Cole (shown below), but revealed to Hello! magazine that the expedition got the better of her and impacted her mental health:

"Yes, mentally and physically (it was tough). When I look back I can't believe what we went through. I don't think any of us realised that you can die up there until halfway up we saw a guy being carried down."

"Then Fearne became desperately ill... It was the altitude; it makes you emotional. I can normally keep myself in check, but I completely lost it. I mislaid my mobile phone - which didn't even work up there - and it felt as if the world had ended. I burst into tears and dashed into our tent, trying to pull up the bottom of the canvas like a mad woman. Cheryl just said to me, 'You're acting really weird. What's going on? This isn't like you.'"
