Kylie Minogue receives honorary doctorate

Kylie Minogue was presented with an honorary doctorate from Anglia Ruskin University in East London yesterday.

The Australian popstar received this doctorate as a result of the awareness she raised for the early diagnosis of cancer and related charity work.

The 'Spinning Around' singer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and underwent chemotherapy and surgery. The 43-year-old has been cancer-free for 6 years.

Minogue has been in the limelight as an actress and singer for over 30 years, and she said that she was nervous when she received her honour:

"I was shaking like a leaf up there. There is so much I actually wanted to say to the students and it just didn't come out of my mouth."

She continued to say that her parents will be very proud of her:

"I didn't end up going to university, as much as my dad would have loved me to, so I do hope that you've got a good picture of that because when I send this home, he'll be very pleased with that".
