Gaga thanks Lily Allen for calling her a "martyr" for art

Lady Gaga has spoken out in praise of Lily Allen after her creative credentials were lauded by the Brit.

The 'Hard Out Here' star recently told Rolling Stone that she feels the 'ARTPOP' star is a "martyr" for art, saying:

"If she's not succeeding commercially because she's standing by what she does as art, then that's a f**king great thing. That's to be commended. That's what makes a martyr. There's nothing wrong with that."

Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Scott Mills, Gaga reciprocated the praise by thanking Allen and complimenting her artistic qualities.

The 'Born This Way' icon said of Allen's words: "Well that's really very sweet. I've always been a very big fan of hers and I appreciate her standing up for artists and sticking up for me in particular - that's really admirable for her to do that.

"I think all artists should stand by one another, because when it becomes a competition, then we're not supporting the production of creativity and art - but when you support all artists and you support one another wholeheartedly, kind of like an unconditional love for music, then you're supporting everyone and anything to make what they love [sic]."

"She's always had that very old school heart though, so it doesn't surprise me. But I thought that was very sweet. Thank you Lily. You're lovely."
