Lady Gaga stresses importance of mental health after Robin Williams death

Lady Gaga has spoken of the need to awareness of mental health after the death of Robin Williams.

The actor was found dead aged 63 on Monday (August 11) after what is thought to be suicide.

Speaking on Twitter, Gaga joined in the entertainment world in paying their respects to the Oscar winning comic.

Williams was battling depression at the time of his death and the 'Applause' star added on Twitter that people shouldn't suffer in silence.

The singer said: "Rest in Peace+Laughter Robin Williams. Perhaps this tragedy will shed light on the seriousness of depression. You made us all so so happy.

"Please reach out to http://bornthiswayfoundation.org if you are struggling with depression, mental illness or addiction. You are not alone."

Gaga and her mother Cynthia Germanotta launched the Born This Way Foundation in 2011.

It is designed to "foster a more accepting society, where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated. The Foundation is dedicated to creating a safe community that helps connect young people with the skills and opportunities they need to build a kinder, braver world."
