Julie Andrews 'touched' by Lady Gaga Sound of Music Oscars medley

Julie Andrews has revealed that she was "honoured" to see Lady Gaga perform a Sound of Music medley at the Oscars.

The US singer paid tribute to the classic music movie at the awards ceremony on Sunday (February 22) on stage.

Andrews - who played Maria in the 1965 film - hugged Gaga after her performance and she told People following the show that she was "touched" by the medley.

She said: "I was deeply honoured by the Academy's lovely tribute to The Sound of Music, and especially touched by Lady Gaga's wonderful performance.

"I have always been a fan, but last night we bonded and now I have a new friend."

Twitter and Facebook meanwhile confirmed that Gaga's performance was the most talked about moment of the Oscars on their websites.
