Lady Gaga receives Songwriters Hall Of Fame prize

Lady Gaga has been honoured at this year's Songwriters Hall Of Fame induction and awards ceremony.

The singer was given the Contemporary Icon Award at the New York event on Thursday (June 18).

Hall of Fame CEO Linda Moran said that the 'Born This Way' star is "underrated" when it comes to writing.

She said: "When we created this award, she really seemed like the perfect one to get it.

"We don’t give these special awards out every year, and everyone just felt that it was a perfect one to do.

“I think she’s definitely underrated as a songwriter, partially because she was first known more as a personality."

Gaga meanwhile wrote on Instagram: "Being a songwriter is first and foremost how I identify in life. Tonight's Award means a lot to me.

"Thank you so much for the Songwriters Hall Of Fame Contemporary Icon Award. What a trip. Feels like a lifetime."

The singer performed a cover of Linda Perry's 'What’s Up?' on the night.
