Music stars dominate Twitter's global top 5

The list of the top 5 most followed Twitter users in the world is dominated by the stars of the music industry.

Lady Gaga leads the ranks with a staggering 7.9 million followers, which spurred her to campaign against AIDS back in December 2010 by declaring herself 'digitally dead' until her fans donated enough money to buy back her virtual presence. Following closely behind is Canadian teen superstar Justin Bieber who is the second most-popular figure on the social networking site with 6.9 million fans and Britney Spears is in third place with 6.7 million.

The only non-music related personalities to rank in the global top five are the U.S President, Barack Obama, who has 6.4 million followers and Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher, who became the first Twitter user to exceed 1 million followers back in 2009, with his current number of 6.2 million fans.
