Lady Gaga to become first artist to sing in space

Lady Gaga will become the first recording artist to sing in space in 2015.

The flamboyant star confirmed the expected news at an 'ARTPOP' launch party in New York at the weekend.

She will team up with Virgin Galactic in early 2015 to become the first ever live performer in space. The singer told reporters about how the collaboration came about:

"I did not buy a ticket. My ticket was given to me. I was asked specifically to sing. So I'm going to be the first recording artist to sing in space. And I did not purchase my flight. This is a special festival event held by Zero G Colony and I will be flying to space two months after the first commercial flights take off."

Virgin Galactic - headed by Richard Branson - have been working for years on creating a way of running commercial flights into space.

However, astronaut Chris Hadfield has already performed acoustically in space, filming the video for the song 'Space Oddity' whilst floating in front of the Earth.

This perhaps may mean that Gaga will be the first recording artist to perform in space.
