Lana Del Rey on Why She Changed Her Name: “My old name never felt like it belonged to me”

'Born To Die' songstress Lana Del Rey recently sat down for an interview with 98.7FM and opened up about the meaning behind her 'Die Young' tattoo, her possible collaboration with Lady Gaga and why she changed her name.

The star was born Lizzy Grant, but decided to abandon that moniker in favor of something that "was as beautiful as the music I was going to make."

When asked if she didn't think her original name lived up to her standards, she explained: "It just never personally spoke to me. For me, it just didn't really feel like it was mine. I didn't feel like it belonged to me. I decided that I would be the one who decided what my name was and I would decide where I lived, and I would decide what I would do. I just never deny my creative urges."

Del Rey also spoke about her 'Die Young' tattoo and admitted that it shouldn't be taken literally because it's a source of inspiration for her in a personal way: "I would use it as an inspiration to live every day like it was my last day, even if I keep on going. It's more of just an inspiration to stay young in my mind, even if I feel tired and old."

Lady Gaga recently confirmed that Del Rey had recorded a version of 'Princess Die' for her new album ARTPOP, but when quizzed on the collaboration, she claimed to not know anything about it:

"I don't think there is a collaboration? I don't know, we haven't spoken. I think she's probably busy making her record. I don't think that's on her agenda."
