Arliston first began writing in a windowless basement underneath a main road in early 2017 with the soft scream of road noise in the background. Whilst living down there while writing the album, front-man Jack Ratcliffe worked with producer and engineer Chris Blakey (Death In Vegas, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Lloyd Williams). Jack admitted that even early on, the frenzied over-stimulation of the road and city above-ground “definitely made us look at the music differently: as a retreat from the rushing traffic, rather than an expression of some perfect rural setting”.

With an upcoming EP due for release in 2018 and no previously released music, Arliston are looking to make their mark with their first single ‘Enough’: a powerful combination of re-sampled vocal textures set against surging drums, and Jack Ratcliffe’s rousing vocals, eventually rising up into soaring falsetto.

The song centres around the repetition of ‘I’. The constant repetition is supposed to reflect the consistent presence of egocentric, ‘I’ based thoughts, no matter what else is going on or happening around you. Everything is interpreted through the lens of first person experience, which is being expressed in the music video. With influences from Rob Doyle’s ‘Here are the Young’ and the stoic fatalism of WWI soldiers, there is so much depth to each lyric and movement of this piece of from Arliston.

The band consists of George Hasbury (Keys, Guitar, Bass & Backing Vocals), Jordi Bosch (Drums, Synth & Backing Vocals) and Jack Ratcliffe (Guitar & Lead Vocals) and are about to embark on their first run of live shows this coming summer starting with a show tonight at the Fiddlers Elbow.
