Lily Allen surprised by speed of music comeback

Lily Allen has admitted that she is somewhat surprised at returning to music so soon.

The singer's last album came in the shape of 2009's 'It's Not Me, It's You' and she is expected to release a new record this year.

Allen took a number of years out of the game to start a family and pursue other avenues, such as fashion retail.

Speaking to Q, however, the singer said that she was expecting to have a longer hiatus:

"I wasn't surprised to come back again, but I was surprised to want to so soon. It's been quite a shock…a lot has changed in four years."

Allen added that she is looking to avoid the dangerous lure of pop cliches by writing music that is "frank" and honest. She said:

"It's no use just singing about being famous, or rhyming 'crazy' with 'baby' a million times over. I still want to write about things that are relevant to other people. And I like to be frank, whether it's about sex or politics or feminism...but if people want to call it controversial, then, well, that's their thing."

Allen's comeback single meanwhile came in the shape of 'Hard Out Here', which was released at the end of 2013.
