Lily Allen reveals she turned down Band Aid 30: 'There's something smug about it'

British songstress Lily Allen has revealed that she declined an offer to record vocals on Band Aid 30's new rendition of 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' because she thinks it's better to just donate money to the worthy cause.

Speaking to the Daily Mail newspaper, she explained that the 'bunch of people' involved with Band Aid 30 are 'smug' and she doesn't want to be associated with them so turned the opportunity down:

"I got an email asking me to do it. It's difficult to give an explanation why I didn't do it without sounding like a complete c**t. I prefer to do my charitable bit by donating actual money and not being lumped in with a bunch of people like that."

She went on to justify her decision by adding: "It's like the 'Success Club' and I'm not really in that club. I don't think I'm above it all – I'm way below it. But there's something a bit smug about it."

The charitable single, meanwhile, debuted at No.1 on the UK Official Top 40 yesterday and had the biggest first week single sales of the year. Geldof has now called on the public to delete and re-purchase the track in order to raise as much money as possible
