Tuesday 25th June - Melodic death metal heroes AMON AMARTH are confirmed as the headliners of Metal Hammer’s fourth DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH tour which will storm it’s way across the UK this November.
Joining the tour as special guests will be reactivated death metal innovators CARCASS who’s latest album ‘Surgical Steel’, their first in seventeen years, will be released in September via Nuclear Blast.
Support comes in the shape of hotly tipped Glaswegian deathcore outfit BLEED FROM WITHIN and HELL; the cult mid-eighties heavy metal act whose follow up to 2011 album “Human Remains” is due for release in October.
Talking to Metal Hammer magazine earlier this month, AMON AMARTH guitarist Olavi Mikkonen commented “November has never felt this far away and we can’t wait to storm your shores again with the Defenders Of The Faith tour. June 24th also sees the release of the ninth AMON AMARTH studio album. Titled ‘Deceiver of the Gods’, the epic offering was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage). The cover art was, once again, completed by Tom Thiel and depicts a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki & Thor.
A compelling synthesis of buzzsaw riff work, melodic harmonies and soul-severing rhythms punctuated by vocalist Johan Hegg's callous Viking roar and gripping accounts of Norse battles and treachery, ‘Deceiver of the Gods’ is the follow-up to the band's critically lauded 2011 ‘Surtur Rising’ full-length.
