Madonna names Katy Perry 'guest curator' for her Art For Freedom project

The Queen of Pop has named singer Katy Perry as a new guest curator for her Art For Freedom initiative

Art For Freedom helps to promote and encourage free speech as a means to address injustice internationally and illusionist David Blaine was last month's guest curator.

The 'Teenage Dream' beauty will help Madonna select one winner at the end of January whose "creative expression demonstrates a unique view of the fight for human rights". This winner will then be able to choose a non-profit organisation to which Madonna will give a $10,000 grant.

Perry issued a statement on the exciting news and explained that she's thrilled to be on board: "I am so fortunate to have the freedom to express myself through music."

She added: "Now I’m calling all of my incredibly creative KatyCats to use their talent to show Madonna and me how they express their freedom. I believe that 2014 can be a year of great social change. Together we can all stand up for Human Rights."
